Who's homesick...for Jesus??

2 Cor. 5:1-2

The Apostle Paul wrote these words about our heavenly dwelling place:

"Now we know that if the earthly tent [physical body] we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.  Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling."

I love how Paul describes heaven in this scripture. It speaks so much to me and has a lot to say about living in this life.

We get so comfortable in where we live, what we do, who we see, where we go, and so on that we tend to forget just how temporary this all is!   We see a lot of bad in this world. School shootings, suicides, severe hurricanes and tornadoes, sad but heartwarming war stories, deadly illnesses, and so on. We get so discouraged and think, "Oh God, please come soon...I don't want to be in this world and all it's trials any longer." Not to mention all of these things can take a loved one from us in some way or another. Right away all we can think about is did they know the Lord? Are they in heaven? Some of us know for sure, and then some of us do not! When we know they are in heaven, it makes it easier and yet it causes us to long to be with them and, we get homesick for our eternal home.

Let me ask you something, how often do we just get homesick for heaven because we are so in love with Jesus that we can't wait to see HIS face and worship at HIS feet!  We wake up in the morning and love that we are given a new day with new mercies, but how often do we just tell Jesus that we cannot wait till the day comes that we can put our arms around Him and give him praise and just love on Him?  Why do we wait for a national disaster or something else to happen for us to tell Him that we are homesick?

When I was a kid, I went away every year to Summit Grove Church Camp. I loved it so much that I then became a counselor also every year. I can remember that even tho I loved it, I still would really miss home, because of the love I have for my family. Mom would write letters to me, and then I would really miss them. It wasn't because something terrible happened and I just needed to be with them...It was just because of my genuine love for them.

That is how our hearts should be when it comes to going home! If we are in His word, I believe that was His way of writing to us, so that the more we read, the more we would miss home.

Please don't get me wrong...I miss my grandma everyday and cannot wait to see her, and I have my struggles and hard days of tears that so many times I just cry out and say "God take me home!!" But it shouldn't be my drive and purpose to get there. We are to love life and are to be thankful for what we have, but to also keep in mind that it is not our final destination…PRAISE GOD!!!

When you are a Christian, the desire to always want to see and be with Jesus in heaven, should always be the reason for living in this life that God has given us. Everyday should be a day of waking up and asking God, “What can I do today that will draw others to your kingdom and what can I do that will help me live on this earth just passing the time till I can see you face to face?”

I love my family and my friends and my home and the life He has given me here, but I should never love it too much that I lose my desire to be with Jesus in heaven one day.

I love the chorus in this song by Mercy Me...the words are so powerful!

I close my eyes and I see your face

If homes where my heart is,

Then I’m out of place,

Lord won’t you give me strength,

To make it through somehow…

I've never been more homesick than now (Mercy Me)

Do you know, I mean really know, that your soul purpose for temporarily being on this earth, is not even for you? We were put here for one purpose only, and that is to serve God, by serving others, and giving Him the glory!!  I want to have an impact on the world so that others can know Him the way I know Him, and desire to live with Him for all eternity!

2 Cor 5:5

Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

God designed us to be homesick for heaven. We will never be completely at peace until we share eternal life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Who's homesick...for heaven?

Bless or Curse?

Proverbs 18:21  Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

I love the Proverbs, so full of wisdom.  Each verse is something we can really learn from, and if it could be summarized into one meaning, or just two words, I feel it would be Bless or Curse!

What if a doctor would say...”we have discovered that you have cancer cells in your body, BUT there is still hope and we know that God can heal you.” Isn’t that better than…I’m sorry, but you only have 3-6 months to live???

Or a teacher to say…You may not have passed this test, BUT I know you can do it, and you WILL get it next time. Isn’t that better than…I am so tired of you failing in my classroom, you are not going to amount to anything in this life???

Or a coach to say…You may have missed that winning shot, but it’s ok..we win as a team and lose as a team…you’ll get it next time. Isn’t that better than….Way to go…you just lost the game for us…maybe you should try baseball and forget about basketball???

Before we even realize what is coming out of our mouths…it’s there and we have torn down instead of built up!  And once those words are out there…we cannot take them back…we can say we’re sorry…but the ears have already heard and the heart has already received in that moment.

Remember the song:

Oh be careful little mouth what you say

Oh be careful little mouth what you say

For the Father up above is looking down in love,

Oh be careful little mouth what you say.

 What Fills Your Heart?

Jesus said, “. . . out of the abundance of the heart [the] mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). A critical heart produces a critical tongue. A self-righteous heart produces a judgmental tongue. A bitter heart produces an angry tongue. An ungrateful heart produces a grumbling tongue.

But a loving heart produces a gracious tongue. A faithful heart produces a truthful tongue. A peaceful heart produces a reconciling tongue. A trusting heart produces an encouraging tongue.

So fill your heart with grace by soaking in your Bible. READ GOD’S WORD…Soak in Matthew 5, or Romans 12, or 1 Corinthians 13, or Philippians 2. And be very careful taking in the words of death in the newspaper, on the radio, the TV, or the blog.

And pray: “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!” (Psalm 141:3)

The world is full of words of death. “The whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19) who “was a murderer from the beginning. . . and the father of lies” (John 8:44). Let us not join him in his “restless evil” (James 3:8).

For “we are from God” (1 John 15:19), and we believe in his Son, Jesus, “the Word” (John 1:1), “the truth and the life” (John 14:6), and who alone has “the words of eternal life” (John 6:68). Let us join him in speaking these.

Philippians 4:8  For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things[fix your minds on them].

I am always amazed at how it is so much easier to go to the negative, instead of the positive, We seem to fall into that trap everyday, we all do it at times and I recognize it in my spirit right away. You can ask my family and friends, I will be the first one to not let you go there.

When God tells us in His word that the “power of life or death is in the tongue,” then we need to watch what we speak over ourselves and others. And to take our thoughts captive when they are lies from the enemy and go against everything that God says we are in Christ Jesus!  You will see an abundance of blessings begin to fill your lives when you get rid of the negativity. Something I would like to challenge you with today is too see yourself not through your eyes, but through God’s eyes.

Ladies we are His Princesses, and men you are His Prince among men. We are made in His image alone, and created for His purpose alone. We need to stop putting ourselves and others down and SPEAK LIFE instead.

Monitor your thoughts, for this is the enemy's play ground. The devil will bombard you with the temptation to believe his lies, and if you entertain or believe the lies, he has greater access to your mind and emotions. Always maintain truth to counteract these subtle attacks and refuse to allow him any access. It is truth that will set you free from darkness, says the Lord.

Faith to Walk on Water...or....Fear that sinks?

Jesus Calms the Storm

Luke 8:22-25

22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and started out. 23 As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger.

24 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm.25 Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?”

The disciples were terrified and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!”

I am seeing in this scripture, that when the storm hit, so did the fear. I think sometimes we get so afraid we forget that not only Jesus is always there, but in Him, we have the power and authority to speak to that storm in HIS name!!

Mark 14:25-33

25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Here is another example of when our faith needs to outweigh our fear!  I believe those men, as followers of Christ could have rebuked that storm, but instead, they got all caught up in it. Instead of keeping their eyes on Jesus, they only looked at the storm. Peter, got out of the boat and began to walk on the water, he had the faith to believe, but also took his eyes of Jesus and focused on the storm.

We can have the faith, but what good is it to us if we do not exercise it!! Peter didn’t wait to see what the temp of the water was, or what the wind chill factor was, or for someone else to make the first move. He just went!!!!

We can learn from that. When the Lord says to come, we need to obey. We can also learn that once we obey and take that leap of faith, we need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus!!  Trust Him…He has you!!! Don’t be the one of little faith! Let’s have BIG faith and believe in the promises of God’s word. Everything in it is TRUTH!!!!

I heard a saying one time, that has stuck with me forever, and it just says, “Instead of telling God how big your storm is, tell your storm how big your God is!!!

I used to sing a song with my sister in law, along with the rest of the Kauffman Family called “Speak to the Mountain”….this is the chorus.

“Speak to the mountain, you’ll not triumph over me

Be thou removed from here to yonder

Disappear into the sea

Speak to the mountain, speak with authority

And the mountain, must move…

And you shall claim victory!”

I am reminded of the scripture that talks about that authority. Our trials can look like storms, or as it says in Mark, a mountain.

 Mark 11:23

For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Don’t let fear of the storm paralyze you from having faith to walk in the authority to overcome!!  Let's take HIS hand....Let's WALK ON WATER!!!!

Faith is seeing before believing???

Matthew 17: 20  He said to them, Because of  the littleness of your faith [that is, your lack of [a]firmly relying trust]. For truly I say to you, if you have faith [[b]that is living] like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to yonder place, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

Why is it we seem to always need to see the BIG PICTURE, instead of continuing to trust God daily with the faith that He calls us to have?  When I was going through my divorce and had to go through bankruptcy, and lost the house, the car, my self esteem, my abilities to believe I could be a mother for my kids, my faith was greatly shaken. Things were disappearing right and left, so much that I think the boys thought they were next. Starting over was not easy at all, and with all the things that I was watching just slip through my hands, my heart was breaking and struggling to believe. I read a quote one time, and it has stuck with me all these years. So simple, yet so powerful, it said…

“When you feel completely abandoned by God, Yet continue to trust Him, that is your deepest act of worship.”  My faith was strengthened in that moment to know that God would never leave me nor forsake me. That my life was clearly in His hands.

I challenge you today, to trust God no matter what your circumstance may be. He is the only one that knows exactly what you need, when you need it.

 The BIG PICTURE…not important....The FAITH to believe….vital!!

Enter with Expectancy!

Mark 16:3,4

3. and they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?" 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.

As I was reading this Chapter in Mark 16:3,4 God revealed something to me in a scripture that I have read, and a story that I know so well. The part that stood out to me so clearly was that when the women were approaching the tomb, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, and the tomb was open to enter in.

Number 1…the scripture says it was a large stone that they thought was going to keep them from Jesus, BUT when they got there, the large obstacle had been moved and was not a hindrance to see Jesus.  No matter what you are facing in this lifetime, if you run to Jesus and seek His face, He will remove the obstacles ahead of you.

Now, number 2…I heard God in that moment say to me, “Don’t you see, even on the day that I rose from the dead, I was preparing a way.” In that moment I realized how awesome and how amazing it is that Jesus wants us to come and enter in expecting great things!

Without even stopping to think about it, in my own carnal way of thinking, I just always thought the stone was rolled away so Jesus could walk out of the tomb, but let’s think about it from a mind that knows God and how awesome He is, did He really need that stone to be moved out of the way in order for Him to leave the tomb?

NO….I believe He had it rolled away by the time they arrived to the tomb to show them something! He was gone and the opening was there, so when they arrived, they could just enter in. When they saw He was gone, I believe they felt a great expectancy for what was going to happen. I believe with all my heart, God is saying to us through this today, when we enter into His presence; we are to do it with expectancy for what is to come.  He so wants us to be blessed, and experience life in abundance through Him. We just need to be ready to receive.

He has already removed the obstacle..…You may enter!!!

Praise...Taste...and See!!

Psalm 34:1-10

1 I will praise the Lord at all times.
I will constantly speak his praises.
2 I will boast only in the Lord;
let all who are helpless take heart.
3 Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness;
let us exalt his name together.

4 I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me.
He freed me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;
no shadow of shame will darken their faces.
6 In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened;
he saved me from all my troubles.
7 For the angel of the Lord is a guard;
he surrounds and defends all who fear him.

8 Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
9 Fear the Lord, you his godly people,
for those who fear him will have all they need.
10 Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry,
but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.

I’m kind of seeing a pattern as I read down through this Psalm. In all things we give praise. God loves when we praise Him through all our circumstances. I believe we are being obedient, when we praise Him. Our flesh wants to grumble, complain, and worry. God says to PRAISE!

If you don’t have a job and you are looking for one, instead of getting upset that you can’t find a job, start thanking and praising God for the job you already have even when you don’t have it. We need to start calling those things into existence as though they already were. (Romans 4:17  "as it is written, A father of many nations have I made thee before him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were." ) I'm not talking about the term "name it and claim it" I don't see that being what God is talking about when He is speaking of having faith to believe that He will meet your needs. Claiming what you want, may not be what's best for you, claiming and believing for God's will to be done in your life is what I believe He is saying here. So speak out “Thank you Lord God that I have a job, Thank you  that it meets all my needs and provides for my family." Now trust that He has you!!

We need to start speaking out life and praise and thanksgiving, even if we don’t have it…yet! Psalm 34:8 says, “O taste and see that the Lord is good..”

Think of it this way, I know when I go out to eat, it’s usually to go to a place that I’m already hungry for even though the food is not yet in front of me, I'm expecting it to be good and satisfy my hunger, and in the mean time I’m craving that taste even if I can’t see it or taste it yet.  I know it’s what I want to eat.

We need to go after God the same way, craving Him, wanting Him, needing Him to satisfy that hunger. The bible says (Psalms 22:3 “God inhabits the praises of his people”.)

I always thought that statement was nothing more than a way to get me to sing the praise choruses that so many of our churches use now. The truth is we should heed that advice. It’s not just that it’s scriptural. It’s one of God’s principles that work when we apply it.

The praise that we give Him  ALWAYS, is just the appetizer for the full course meal that is coming. Taste and see, taste and see…

It does not get any better than that!

Say Your Name!!!

If you don't like your life, have a meeting with yourself, and think about what you have been thinking about. Instead of blaming it on everything else, have a meeting with yourself and just ask yourself if it's time for you to get rid of your stinking thinking. ~Joyce Meyer Ministries~

Wow...I love what Joyce has to say here... I mean it really is easy to blame someone else rather than examining your own life, but God can't work in us...if we are always looking at the other person!

It's like going to AA to get help and when you stand up to admit you have a problem...You say someone else's name!! I have often wondered what would happen if when we looked in a mirror, instead of seeing our outward looks, we would see our fears and pain and hurts!!! God wants to heal us... He want to take every broken piece we have and create something so beautiful INSIDE of us. Our outside beauty can't even compare to what God can heal on the inside. It's only then that our OUTWARD beauty will matter!! After all, He doesn't love us from the outside in, He loves us from the inside out!! He doesn't care if your tie is straight, or if you are wearing the right shade of lipstick.

He cares about how you treated that person who came across your path today, and if you were kind, and if you showed them His love by what is inside of you!!   His love inside of you IS what our outside beauty should reflect to everyone around us!!  God cannot work through any of that until we admit there is a problem. So when God calls your name to say I want to help YOU...., we need to stand up, SAY OUR NAME, and admit WE need help!!!  I challenge you today to...

Let it snow...and snow...and snow!!

I am sitting here watching the steady, constant snow falling outside my office window. I see how beautiful and pure it is. I watch a car go by or the plow and see how it dirties up the snow. Then I see the steady, constant snow just keep falling and covers the dirty snow again.

As I watch this process, I am reminded of the STEADY, CONSTANT LOVE of our precious savior Jesus Christ!!! No matter what happens in our lives, HIS STEADY, CONSTANT LOVE never ceases and will ALWAYS cover our sin!!! No matter how dirty sin makes us. We are blanketed in HIS STEADY, CONSTANT LOVE!

So I just wanted to share that thought with you all today, as you watch the snow fall...even if you really don't like snow...just let it remind you of how LOVED you are by the CREATOR Himself now and always!!!

Whiter than snow, yes, whiter than snow,
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
